Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria area is blessed with many good people. If you read the February 2025 Zebra, you learned about the Snow Buddies. Many residents are unable to shovel the snow and rely on the Snow Buddies to help to clear their sidewalks, driveways, and more, giving them the access they need.
The group of volunteers are always available with shovels at the ready, waiting for the snow to end so they can get to work. But, sometimes, the best laid plans can go awry. After the snow finished falling, one Snow Buddy found herself unable to fulfill her duties to help. She called VolunteerALX where Marion Brunken, Executive Director, was monitoring the system. Thanks to Marion’s quick actions, another Snow Buddy, Anita Sacharian, was found to take over the task.
A short time later, the family sprung into action. They lived nearby and all four family members converged to shovel the driveway, street, and sidewalks. When they finished, they spread pet-safe salt to prevent ice. They even promised to return with pumpkin bread
