The Del Ray Citizens Association has announced the 2026 return of First Thursday, the free, family-friendly monthly celebration that transforms Pat Miller Square into a lively hub of music, activities, and community connection.

The season kicks off Thursday, May 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. with the theme “It’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” inviting residents and visitors alike to come out, meet neighbors, and enjoy the unmistakable small-town spirit that defines Del Ray.

A New Chapter for a 30-Year Tradition

This year marks a transition for the long-running event. The Citizens Association has taken over organizing duties from the Del Ray Business Association, which founded and produced First Thursday for nearly three decades.

“The Del Ray Business Association is very excited that the Del Ray Citizens Association is continuing this long-time community tradition,” said Lauren Fisher, president of the Business Association.

The handoff ensures the continuation of a signature neighborhood gathering that has long served as a cornerstone of Del Ray’s community life.

What to Expect

Held at Pat Miller Square (Mt. Vernon & East Oxford avenues), First Thursday brings together live music, themed activities, and local energy that spills out along Mount Vernon Avenue.

Each month features a different theme and sponsor:

  • May 7: “It’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (sponsored by Alexandria Hyundai)
  • June 4: “Field Day” (sponsored by Del Ray Farmers Market)
  • July 2: “America 250” (sponsored by The Jen Walker Team)

All events run from 5 to 8 p.m. and are free to attend.

Keeping Del Ray Connected

The Del Ray Citizens Association, a volunteer-led organization, says its goal is simple: bring people together and strengthen the sense of community that makes Del Ray one of Alexandria’s most distinctive neighborhoods.

With warmer weather arriving and sidewalks filling again, First Thursday’s return signals the start of another lively summer season in Del Ray—one built around neighbors, small businesses, and shared moments just steps from home.
