Alexandria, VA – On Friday, April 16, Mayor Wilson dedicated the temporary COVID-19 memorial, Alexandria Remembrance, at Rivergate Park. Alexandria Remembrance, inspired by the temporary memorial by Suzanne Firstenberg at the DC Armory, will serve as a quiet place for remembrance and reflection of the Alexandrians we have lost to COVID-19. The memorial will be up through June 21.
“Today, we come together to honor those in Alexandria lost to COVID-19,” said Mayor Wilson. “Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, grandmothers, granddaughters, friends, neighbors. We are all connected in this community, and this memorial stands as a reminder that we are all connected as Alexandrians.”
Congressman Don Beyer and other notable community members spoke about the devastating effects of the pandemic and the heroic efforts of first responders, healthcare workers, and others to help neighbors in need.
