It’s Official: Holmes Run Trail Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge Opens with Free Safety Gear

Today, November 8, 2018 marked the finish line on a project long in the works.
The City of Alexandria’s Department of Transportation & Environmental Services, along with local volunteers and advocates, ceremonially cut a small ribbon, thus officially opening the new Holmes Run Trail pedestrian and bicycle bridge.
Residents were invited to join the celebration and receive free safety gear.

Construction on the bridge was completed in September. The spot was identified as a priority project in the City’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan, as the new bridge replaces a fair-weather crossing that was often inaccessible due to high water levels, and improves safety, access and comfort on the trail.
