ALEXANDRIA, VA – During the coronavirus pandemic, ALIVE! has routinely hosted food distribution events for residents experiencing food insecurity. The nonprofit will next distribute emergency groceries at a “Truck-to-Trunk” on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

There will be two locations for the event: the Cora Kelly Elementary School parking lot at 3600 Commonwealth Ave. and the Northern Virginia Community College-Alexandria Campus B-1 parking lot. The college is located at 5000 Dawes Ave. Alexandrians can use Dawes Ave. to enter the parking lot, where traffic control will be present.  See this map for details.

Organizers encourage people to drive to maintain contactless distribution. Walk-up is available for those who do not own a car. Residents who walk are advised to bring a cart and/or bags to carry groceries home.

ALIVE! asks walkers to wear a mask and practice social distancing (six feet from others). They indicate that drivers will have no reason to leave their vehicles during the event.

If the college is closed because of inclement weather or for any other official reason, it is college policy to cancel all events, including the food distribution.
