Alexandria, VA – With the new federal stimulus package, Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) announced recently that a selection of online classes are open to high school students for free. See below for a complete list. The offer applies to the more than 70,000 rising and graduating seniors in Virginia.

NOVA’s program, called “JumpStart,” provides students with the opportunity to experience college courses and gain credit before entering a university. The class selections offered are easily transferable, too. Students may choose two courses that run from June 1 to July 15.

“At a time when many members of our community are struggling with the COVID-19 fallout, NOVA has an obligation to ensure our future workforce is prepared for success,” said NOVA President Dr. Anne Kress. “The current downturn in our economy does not solve our region’s critical skills gap in information technology, healthcare and skilled trades. When our economy bounces back, our students must be ready.”

To enroll in courses, students must apply to NOVA, complete a JumpStart application, and fulfill eligibility requirements. For students under 18, a parent or guardian’s permission is needed to sign up. For more information about the program, contact [email protected].
