Alexandria, VA – The 25th anniversary of Remember the Titans was marked in Alexandria the weekend of September 19–20 with celebrations at ACPS, the Masonic Temple, and Cinema Del Ray, where a sold-out crowd gathered to relive the story that put the city on the map.

Nearly every surviving player, coach, and cheerleader reunited for the milestone. The weekend opened with a private team reception, a public meet-and-greet, and on-field honors during the Titans football game against Lewis High School—a night that fittingly ended in a 71–0 victory, a crazy coincidental score.

On Saturday, nearly 200 guests attended a reception and dinner at the Masonic Temple. Former scholarship recipient Dean Muhtadi, now a philanthropist and entertainer, surprised the crowd with an $8,000 donation to the Alexandria Scholarship Fund—double what he received in 2004. Executive Director Jasmine Milone accepted the gift.

More than 40 players and cheerleaders received long-awaited ACPS Hall of Fame medals, with the Titan cheerleaders becoming the first inducted squad. Mayor Alyia Gaskins declared September 19 Remember the Titans Day, and long-time ACPS principal John Porter was recognized as an “Exalted Titan” for his enduring school spirit.

“This weekend is intended to celebrate the rich history and messaging that the ’71 Titans have instilled in us through the movie and all the real-life efforts by the Titans to remain in service to their communities,” said MC Rich Daniel.
