ALEXANDRIA, VA – With the pandemic upending lives throughout the nation, it is a stressful time for many. But with the unrest resulting from the recent killings of George Floyd, Brionna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbey, stress felt by the Black community has increased greatly.

Exposure to racism is a stressor for Blacks and/or people of color. The City of Alexandria is aware of the anxiety and fear that racism can produce. They have created resources for those affected by racism.

The webpage located HERE offers guidance for individuals, families, and communities. There are links to mental health counseling, virtual therapy, and meditation. Topics covered range from immigration to racial reconciliation.

After each topic on the page, there is a section called “Actions You Can Do Today.” It lists helpful tips that a person can utilize immediately if he or she has experienced racism-related trauma. This information can educate everyone and influence us to help each other. So take a look.
