ALEXANDRIA, VA — After spending nearly a decade as a Sunday morning fixture in households across the country, former Meet the Press host Chuck Todd is set to return to his local roots — this time, as a judge for one of Alexandria’s most anticipated culinary events.

Todd will headline the 16th Annual Taste of Del Ray, taking place Sunday, June 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center fields. The popular neighborhood event showcases the best of Del Ray’s vibrant restaurant scene, and this year features 14 local eateries competing for the title of top taste.

Chuck Todd’s connection to Del Ray runs deep. In the late 1990s, as he was launching his political journalism career at The Hotline, National Journal’s political briefing, his office was just steps away from Mount Vernon Avenue. During that time, neighborhood staples like St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, Evening Star Cafe, and Taqueria Poblano were just beginning to pop up, laying the foundation for the culinary and cultural destination Del Ray is today.

Todd, who now serves as NBC News’ Chief Political Analyst, is known for his sharp insight and thoughtful analysis — qualities he’ll be bringing to the judging table as he samples entries from some of the area’s most celebrated chefs.

“This neighborhood has always had a special place in my heart,” Todd said. “To see how far it’s come — and to be part of an event that celebrates the community and its creativity — is truly an honor.”

Taste of Del Ray has become a signature event for Alexandria food lovers, drawing crowds eager to sample innovative dishes and vote for their favorites. Attendees can expect everything from gourmet small bites to unique desserts, reflecting the diversity and talent of Del Ray’s culinary scene.

Tickets are available now at 2025tasteofdelray.eventbrite.com, and early purchase is recommended as the event typically sells out.

Whether you’re a longtime local or a first-time visitor, this year’s Taste of Del Ray promises an afternoon of delicious competition — and a chance to welcome back a familiar face.
