Britt Conley’s New Show, “Musica: Music Visualized”, Opens at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton This Weekend

By Sara Dudley Brown, Theatre Editor

Britt Conley, the brilliant artist I wrote about in April, 2017, is having her fall show at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton this weekend! This show, “Musica: Music Visualized”, will contain many of the pieces she has been working on this year. Four of them are large-scale stained glass works that she was commissioned to do for a concert at the Masonic Temple in Alexandria with the Virginia Bronze Hand Bell Ensemble. Those pieces and more will be in the Foyer at building 10.  She will be giving an artist talk on the glass project, showing highlights of the lightshow and discussing other pieces of her artwork during the evening. The show runs through December 3rd, 2017.

The four works I mentioned above feature Britt’s stained glass interpretations of Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite” Finale, Debussy’s “Sunken Cathedral”, Mussorgsky’s “Great Gate of Kiev”, and “Lux Aeterna”. Britt paints and draws the physics of music as well as illustrating the musicality and visual versions of the decision making process of musical creation. Each of the four works stands six feet tall.

The show opens at the Workhouse Arts Center, Building 10, Lorton, Va. on Saturday, November 11th from 6-9pm and runs through December 3rd, 2017.
