Alexandria, VA – Thank you to Beyer Subaru of Alexandria for designating Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) as its “hometown charity” for this year’s “Share the Love” Event. Since 2008, Subaru and its retailers have helped the Meals on Wheels network provide more than 4.3 million meals and friendly visits to seniors in need while bringing awareness to the issues of hunger and isolation affecting homebound older adults.

The campaign runs from November 16 through January 2, 2024. To Share the Love with City of Alexandria Meals on Wheels clients, SSA  and Beyer Subaru have been collecting festive socks, gloves, and scarves. If you would like to donate any items, SSA is accepting donations at our office in Old Town at 206 N. Washington Street, Suite 301, or at Beyer Subaru located at 7416 Richmond Highway in Alexandria through December 15.

If you are looking for a new car to buy or lease and are considering a Subaru, for every car leased or purchased, Beyer Subaru will donate $300 to the buyer’s charity of choice, including Senior Services of Alexandria. Subaru also partners with four national partner charities: The ASPCA®, Make-A-Wish®, Meals on Wheels America, and the National Park Foundation.

When choosing SSA, you support programs and services for Alexandria City’s older adults, including nutrition, transportation, companionship, and education and outreach programs for English, Spanish, and Amharic-speaking older adults. In the last year:

  • SSA’s Meals on Wheels delivered over 44,000 nutritious meals to homebound older adults;
  • Volunteer shoppers made over 1,100 grocery deliveries for older adults who face mobility challenges;
  • Friendly Visitors spent over 2,200 hours connecting with isolated seniors;
  • AniMeals delivered over 5,800 lbs of pet food to low-income seniors in partnership with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

“We are honored to be named the hometown charity for this year’s Share the Love Event,” said Mary Lee Anderson, Executive Director of Senior Services of Alexandria. The Share the Love Event is an opportunity to bring awareness during the holiday season of the hardships many older adults face in receiving proper nutrition and combatting social isolation.”
