ALEXANDRIA, VA – In a Facebook post this morning the owners of Nectar Coffee and Wine Bistro, 106 Hume Avenue, announced they are closing for good. “Susan and I have made the extremely difficult decision to close Nectar permanently. We have loved our business, awesome staff, customers and neighbors and are truly grateful for your business over the past 3 years. See you in the neighborhood! Shirley”
Once a Del Ray bungalow, the location was first renovated between 2013 and 2104 to welcome Emma’s Coffee Shop, named after 1925’s Emma P. Hume subdivision, by mother and daughter Connie and Jackie Desrosiers.
In 2017, sisters Susan and Shirley, took over the space and renamed it Nectar Coffee & Wine Bistro. The pair offered fresh home-baked pastries, breakfasts and sandwiches and got a liquor license too. The spot was popular for neighborhood gatherings and client lunches, and popular with espresso connoisseurs. In less than an hour, the post was loaded with comments of support like this one made by Tammy Mannarino, who wrote, “Oh, what a sad day. I’m so sorry. The place you created was so wonderful, with great food, friendly staff, and a warm, light environment. If you ever decide that you’d like to do special events or catering, please let us know and we will be there to support you! Thank you for the good times you’ve given us all!”
