ALEXANDRIA, VA – Lederhosen, dirndls and a whole lot of festive spirit are headed back to Carlyle.

Alexandria Oktoberfest returns to John Carlyle Square on Saturday, September 19, inviting neighbors and visitors to celebrate with German food, cold beer, live entertainment, an artisan market and friendly competitions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission is free, and organizers say the festival is designed for the whole family – whether guests come dressed in traditional Bavarian style, ready to raise a stein with friends or simply looking for a lively way to spend a September Saturday in Alexandria.

Food vendors will offer Oktoberfest staples including bratwurst, pretzels, sauerkraut and strudel. A beer garden will feature German lagers, craft beers and seasonal selections, while live German music and performances will add to the all-day celebration.

For those who prefer browsing to brats, the festival’s arts and crafts market will feature handmade goods from local artisans and crafters.

And for anyone feeling competitive, Alexandria Oktoberfest will offer a Beer Stein Holding Challenge, along with a Mr. & Mrs. Oktoberfest competition for participants ready to show off their best Bavarian-inspired look.

John Carlyle Square, in the heart of Alexandria’s Carlyle neighborhood, is expected to become a gathering place for families, friends and festivalgoers throughout the afternoon – with music, food and plenty of chances to join the fun.
