ALEXANDRIA, VA–Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria, a local nonprofit that repairs the homes of low income families and people in need, is hosting its first ever virtual 5k fundraiser.

With a mission of revitalizing communities, Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria provides repairs for free.

“When homeowners can’t afford the home repairs they need, their health and safety and financial stability are put at risk,” explains President and CEO of Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria, Katharine Dixon.

Repairs include installing handrails and grab bars to prevent falling, replacing ceiling tiles, weatherproofing doors, installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and more.

Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria typically hosts regular volunteer event and the annual fundraising event, National Rebuilding Day. In 2020, however, Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria had to cancel all volunteer and fundraising events. While their means for supply decreased, they saw the demand for repairs increase.

The Run/Walk/Roll to Rebuild was created as a pandemic-friendly way to replace the funds lost during the pandemic. A virtual 5K, the Run/Walk/Roll to Rebuild welcomes anyone to move in any way they want, anywhere they want, for 3.1 miles.

The 5K will take place from April 24 to May 1, and all participants are encouraged to raise funds both before and during the week of the race.

Katharine Dixon says, “We are proud to have so many dedicated runners and sponsors for the race to help our neighbors continue living safely in the most affordable home to them: their own.”

The Presenting Sponsor of the Run/Walk/Roll to Rebuild is Mechanical Contractors Association of Metro Washington (MCAMW), a proud sponsor of Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria.
