Owners Laurent and Margaret Ticer Janowsky announce the planned closure of La Bergerie Restaurant in its current Old Town location. The last day will be Saturday, December 24, 2016 – Christmas Eve – when a three-course prix fixe menu will be offered while a strolling violinist serenades customers with traditional, seasonal music.

labergerie-2The Janowskys have been planning to move La Bergerie to 329 N. Washington Street (also in the Old Town district) since June 2014. They received unanimous approvals for their proposed move, and addition of an inn, from both the Alexandria Planning Commission and Alexandria City Council in October 2014. The project has been delayed since November 2014 when a small group of citizens filed a lawsuit against the City of Alexandria and the City Council for approving the project. The Janowskys received news today that the judge ruled in favor of the City and expect that the new project will ultimately move forward.

La Bergerie will continue to be open for dinner Monday through Saturday, 5:30pm-9:30pm and Sunday 5-9pm. After Thanksgiving, the Janowskys will also open La Bergerie for holiday luncheons for parties of 8 or more. Additionally, on Thursday, December 8, 2016, La Bergerie will host a Champagne Dinner offering 4 courses, 6 Champagnes for $150 per person (plus taxes & gratuity).

La Bergerie is a fine dining, French restaurant located in the historic Crilley Warehouse in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia since 1976. Brothers Jean and Bernard Campagne-Ibarq opened La Bergerie in Arlington in 1974 and moved to Alexandria when the renovations of the historic warehouse were complete. La Bergerie was one of the original restaurants in Old Town that helped spur the growth of Old Town into a popular foodie neighborhood. The Janowskys purchased La Bergerie from the Campagne brothers in 2000 as it was approaching its 25th anniversary year in Alexandria. They subsequently opened a second restaurant in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, Del Ray Café. Laurent and Margaret look forward to continuing to greet their long-time La Bergerie guests at Del Ray Café, which offers many of the same specialties in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Are plans going forward for the new restaurant and inn on Washington St.?
I have a $250 gift certificate given to me last year just before you closed. May I use it at Del Ray cafe or must I wait?
