Help Reimagine City Hall: Alexandria Invites Public to Weigh In at Weekend Farmers’ Market Pop-Ups

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The City of Alexandria is inviting residents to help shape the future of one of its most iconic public spaces—City Hall, Market Square, and the adjacent underground garage—through two interactive pop-up events this weekend at local farmers’ markets.
The initiative is part of the broader City Hall and Market Square Renovation Project, a transformative effort aimed at preserving Alexandria’s historic legacy while better reflecting the city’s evolving identity and community values.
Here’s where you can get involved:
🗓 Old Town Farmers’ Market
📍 301 King St.
📆 Saturday, August 2
⏰ 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
🗓 West End Farmers’ Market
📍 4800 Brenman Park Dr.
📆 Sunday, August 3
⏰ 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
At each pop-up, attendees will be invited to participate in storytelling activities, offer ideas for future displays at City Hall and Market Square, and share feedback on what themes and narratives should be highlighted—ranging from Alexandria’s founding history and civic milestones to its vibrant neighborhoods, diverse identities, and future aspirations.
“We want our renovated City Hall to do more than serve administrative functions,” said a city spokesperson. “We want it to tell Alexandria’s full story—to be a space where every resident sees themselves represented.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to complete an online community survey, which will remain open until midnight on August 29. This survey is a key component in ensuring inclusive public input and will help guide decisions about what stories are told and how they’re presented in this reimagined public space.
