ALEXANDRIA, VA – Enjoy theater plays? Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C. has devised a way for you to go to the theater without leaving your house. They are presenting the first audio play, “Kings,” based on a political drama by Alexandria’s own Sarah Burgess.

The play is timely as Americans head to the polls. A press release reads: “Newly elected congresswoman Sydney Millsap arrives in DC armed with her ideals and sense of duty, and refuses to play by the rules of special interests—or her own party. Kate’s a lobbyist who backs winners. The two collide in the audio adaptation of the lacerating comedy Studio produced just after the last midterms. With its snappy dialogue and shrewd look at where power really sits in our government, it’s an audio play just in time for November.”

The play is part of Studio Theatre’s “Studio in Your Ears” series, a collection of free audio plays.

The Washington Post called the work, “awfully funny… the pace is snappy and the intellect is sophisticated…[a] savvy process play about the sausage-making of politics.”

Studio Theatre presented the stage version of “Kings ” in 2018. The audio version features Kelly McCrann, Laura C. Harris, Gina Daniels, and Rick Forcheux. Marti Lyons will direct and work alongside sound designer Mikhail Fiksel.
