ALEXANDRIA, VA-Volunteers of America (VOA), which has an office in Alexandria, is celebrating 125 years of service. It is one of the oldest charities in the country. Currently, the organization is working to help frontline workers during the pandemic who are experiencing trauma and burnout.

Rita Nakashima Brock, Ph.D, who is the director and senior vice president of VOA’s Shay Moral Injury Center, created a program to help veterans returning from war. That program, Resilience Strength Time or ReST, is now being used to help doctors, nurses, and other caretakers.

“While Volunteers of America has been focused […] on serving our most vulnerable populations, we realize that those who serve—the caregivers are equally important,” said Brock. “We have to take care of those who have selflessly taken care of so many others.”

ReST is free, online and confidential, used to help those on the frontlines lessen their emotional toll, support their peers, and maintain the ability to do their work – all in the span of one hour.

To sign up for ReST or for more information, visit voa.org/rest.
