Washington D.C. Might Get a Fourth Airport
Local Government Awaiting FAA Approval
ALEXANDRIA, VA – The DMV could be getting a new commercial airport, with scheduled flights set to begin as early as this year, airlinegeeks.com reported this morning.
The airport would join Washington Reagan National and Dulles airports and BWI and be located at 10600 Harry Parrish Boulevard in Manassas, Virginia, currently operating as Manassas Regional Airport.
The City of Manassas owns Manassas Regional Airport, which opened in 1932 and is currently the busiest General Aviation (GA) Airport in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with over 100,000 annual aircraft operations. 420 planes are based there.
.According to a study in 2017, the airport contributes more than $375 million to its local economy, 1,351 jobs and wages of $117,438,000. It is considered one of the 84 National General Aviation (GA) airports by the FAA and is a designated reliever for Dulles International Airport (IAD).
Local government is working to ready the airport for commercial flights while awaiting final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration on an Airport Certification Manual.
“The airport’s existing 35,000-square-foot terminal will initially see around 10 daily flights,” says WTOP.
