Alexandria, VA – The 28th annual Art on the Avenue festival will take place on Saturday, October 7, from 10 am to 6 pm in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. The event is free and open to all.

Held each fall on Mount Vernon Avenue between Hume and Bellefonte Avenues, Art on the Avenue celebrates the diversity of the Del Ray community. The event, voted by Virginia Living readers as the top arts event in Northern Virginia, is entirely volunteer-run, with support from the local business community.

Art on the Avenue strives to reflect the vibrant mix of the Del Ray community through the artists and their work. The event draws more than 50,000 people annually from throughout the metropolitan Washington area. The activities include:

  • Over 350 artists: Fine artists, artisans, and craftspeople sell their handmade items, such as wheel-thrown vases and bowls, sculpture, tote bags and handbags, drawings and pastels, knitted and crocheted hats and gloves, woven scarves and shawls, gourmet food, fused and blown glass, jewelry, turned wood bowls, paintings, photography, wooden puzzles, and much more.
  • Four stages of live music: From Blues to Bluegrass, Irish to Americana, Country to Rock and Roll, there’s something for everyone on the festival’s four entertainment stages.
  • Children’s activities: Paint a pumpkin, build a scarecrow, and enjoy a wide variety of free children’s craft activities led by local nonprofits.
  • International Food: There is no better way to experience Del Ray’s diversity than through food! Enjoy specialty items from neighborhood restaurants, plus food from various street vendors.
  • Pie Baking Contest: All are welcome to compete in an old-fashioned pie-baking contest with prizes awarded in multiple divisions. After the competition, slices of pie will be available for sale to benefit a local nonprofit. For complete details and rules, go to org.

Free trolley transportation will be provided from the Braddock Road Metro Station to the festival. For more information and a complete schedule, visit artontheavenue.org.
