Students are challenged to craft an original 700-1,000 word essay on “George Washington’s Involvement with Alexandria, Virginia.” The prize for the winning essay is $500.

The contest is open to all 7th and 8th-grade students currently enrolled in Alexandria’s public and private schools. Submissions adhering to the complete guidelines will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The deadline to email entries to [email protected] is 11:59 p.m. on January 31, 2024.

The winner will be honored at a community breakfast on February 19th during Alexandria’s annual Washington’s Birthday celebration.
