ALEXANDRIA, VA – Daniel O’Connell’s Irish Restaurant & Bar at 112 King Street in Old Town Alexandria is donating today’s total sales of their “Queen Charlotte” cocktail to The Campagna Center, a not-for-profit human services organization that has been providing programs that strengthen families and help children since 1945.

Today’s “cocktail of the day” was created to honor community business leader Charlotte Hall on her birthday. Hall has been a career champion of small businesses in Alexandria, and a genuine hero to many in the community.

“She has been the driving force supporting our local community during Covid and continues to be our biggest advocate,” said Niamh O’Donovan, General Manager at O’Connell’s.

Known for decades as the River Boat Queen, Hall was the Vice President of the Potomac Riverboat Company from 1992 until only a few years ago. In addition to dozens of notable civic positions, she is a past president of  the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, leads the Old Town Business and Professional Association, and has taken on a significant role within the Alexandria Restaurant Partners organization.

It is because of Hall’s trumpeting for small businesses, especially during the pandemic, that O’Connell’s decided to raise funds in her name. True to character, Hall was busy giving back at a site across town when The Zebra reached her for comment about the philanthropic gesture. Hall texted, “I didn’t know anything about it. I’m hosting a vaccine clinic right now. But tell them thank you!”

The $15 cocktail sings the notes of spring combining Ketel One Vodka Grapefruit and Rose Botanical with the floral elements of Italicus Liquer, along with squirts of fresh lemon and grapefruit juices, and a dash of simple syrup.
