ALEXANDRIA, VA-Earlier this evening (Feb. 27), Alexandria City Manager James Parajon presented his proposed operating and capital budget for Fiscal Year 2025 to City Council at City Hall. It is the result of months of collaboration between Council, various city departments partners, and the community. FY25 begins July 1 of this year and ends June 30, 2025.

Parajon proprosed an operating budget of $911.3 million. In addition, he also presented a $2.33 billion 10-year Capital Improvement Program budget for FY 2025 to 2034.

This budget covers the following areas: collective bargaining with first responders, staff retention and recruiting, a continued commitment to education, affordable housing and strengthening Alexandria’s economy.

Of particular interest is the fact that the budget allows for unions that represent emergency personel to negotiate pay, benefits, safety policies, and more. Further, it completely funds the ACPS Operating Budget.

It is also worth mentioning that DASH riders can still use the busses fare free, and there are no changes in tax rates for residents and businesses.

On Feb 29 at 7:30 p.m., Parajon will present his proposal to the public at Beatley Library (5005 Duke St.
