ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Thursday, August 20, 2020 religious leaders gathered in Charlottesville to kick off a 9-day Walk the Walk 2020, a march to Washington called “The Faith Pilgrimage of Reckoning, Resolve and Love.” The Faith for Action group intends to show a commitment to “walk the walk” of racial equality and “to reckon with anti-Blackness that permeates our past and present as a nation and as faith institutions,” according to their mission statement.

During the 9-day journey the group plans to travel 8-15 miles per day from Charlottesville, VA to Washington, D.C. People are welcome to walk all or part of the distance each day. Along the pilgrimage, they will have events, speakers, and opportunities for reflection on the intersection of faith and racial injustice.

Alexandrians can pick up the group for a one-day walk by joining them at 7:00 a.m at Rivergate City Park, 819 Rivergate Pl, Alexandria, VA 22314 for an 8-mile walk along the Mount Vernon Trail to Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C. (You can also meet the pilgrims at the Jefferson Memorial at approximately 9:30 a.m. and join the walk to Lafayette Park.) There will be a program from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Lafayette Park to conclude the pilgrimage. The group will then join the National Action Network Commitment March: Get Your Knee Off Our Necks at the Lincoln Memorial.
