OBITUARY: Native Alexandrian Robert Franklin Thorpe, 73

Robert Franklin Thorpe, 1947 – 2020

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Robert Franklin Thorpe passed away on December 29, 2020.  He was born in Alexandria, Virginia on January 28, 1947 to James Franklin Thorpe and Ethel Mae Reddy.  He leaves behind the love of his life, wife of 53 years, Nancy Odell Thorpe.  He is survived by his pride and joy daughter Nancy Lynn Carter, son-in-law Christopher Carter, his grandchildren Ashley Lynn Thorpe and Benjamin Colin Carter.  He is also survived by two brothers, James Richard Thorpe and William Lee Thorpe.

Bob Thorpe loved adventure and fun and will be sorely missed in his native Alexandria, Virginia.

Bob was an honorable, intelligent, resilient, caring man who provided for his family in every way. His passion for life included riding his motorcycles on country roads near and far, including trips in Europe and across the United States where he visited many National Parks and landmarks.

He was extremely intelligent with finances and took pride in his achievements. He dedicatedly worked at NCTA in Washington, DC for over 50 years. Thanks to his support his granddaughter attended graduate school, creating inter-generational success to continue his legacy of positive change.

He cracked the funniest jokes, enjoyed watching movies and shows to discuss with others, created origami out of dollar bills, and enjoyed sitting and walking outside for fresh air. We will all miss him dearly and honorably carry on his spirit of adventure and devotion.
