March is going to be a wonderful time to spend visiting art exhibits all over town! From Del Ray to nearby Harrisonburg, check out these events.

Alexandria, VA – The Art League Gallery of the Torpedo Factory gets a jump on spring with a March Flora/Fauna exhibit. Juried by Carol Fabricatore, the member-only show will feature works that explore plant and animal life focusing upon the delicate balance of the natural world. The exhibit runs from March 10 until April 5, with an opening reception on Thursday, March 12, from 6:30 ~ 8:30 p.m. Carol Fabricatore is a New York artist whose work has been featured in books, magazines, newspapers, and advertising.

• Del Ray Artisans has a new show for March. “Tell Me A Story,” curated by local artist Lesley Hall, runs from March 6 ~ 29. The show focuses on narrative as expression and all media will be on exhibit, inviting the viewer to stand back and have a listen. The opening reception is Friday, March 6, 7:00 ~ 9:00 p.m. The reception is free, so come ready to tell a tale or two of your own.

The gallery at 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue is open Thursday noon ~ 6:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon~ 9:00 p.m., and Sunday noon ~ 6:00 p.m.

• At the Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery, in Studio 29 on the first floor of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 North Union Street, spring is popping with “Purple Pops,” the March to April themed show that’s all about the color purple. It’s a technicolor spectrum from grape to lavender, the hues of spring flowers and purple mountains majesty, Adirondack sunsets and wildflower cascades. 50 shades or more! “Purple Pops” opens March 17 and continues through April 19.

• The Principle Gallery at 208 King Street is showing the work of abstract landscape painter and D.C. native Kevin Fitzgerald, whose lifetime experiences exploring the ecology of the tidal Potomac, Eastern Shore, and Chesapeake Bay are seminal to the lyrical imagery in his work. An opening reception is be March 21, from 6:30 ~ 9:00 p.m. The gallery is open Monday noon ~ 5 p.m., Tuesday ~ Thursday 10:00 a.m.~ 6:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m.~ 8:00 p.m., and Sunday 11:00 a.m.~ 6:00 p.m.

• The Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg currently has a multi-media show inspired by but not limited to textiles. “No Fabric/ No Rules” is an invitational exhibit of 2D and 3D art intended to challenge select artists across a wide spectrum of mediums to reinvent quilt design elements without using traditional quilting methods or materials. Glass, tile, metal, wood, ceramics, natural fibers, even real leaves turn common quilting shapes patterned landscapes, seascapes, abstracts or portraiture.

The mosaic artistry of Alexandria’s own Nina Tisara is included in this quilt-less quilting museum show on exhibit through July. Trudi Van Dyke, former director of the Torpedo Factory, curated the remarkable think-outside-the-box exhibit. The
