OBIT: Michael “Mitchell” Hadeed Sr., 93, Hadeed Carpet Founder

ALEXANDRIA, VA-Michael “Mitchell”Mitry Hadeed Sr., 93, passed away on Dec. 7, 2023.  Mr. Hadeed was born in Newark, New Jersey on June 19, 1930. Following the tragic death of his father, Mitry Hadeed, when Mr. Hadeed was only three years old.  He spent his childhood and adolescence years living in Ramallah, Palestine until age 16. Mr. Hadeed unconditionally loved his family and community. He lived each day demonstrating his humble, generous, and kindhearted nature.

A successful entrepreneur and man of service to others, Mr. Hadeed was known for his sterling character, calm demeanor, and dedication to helping people in need. He served overseas in the U.S. Military during the Korean war. Following his Honorable Discharge, he established Hadeed Carpet in 1955 at the age of 25 along with his late brother, Teddy Hadeed. He participated in many organizations including The American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Lions International and Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Hadeed was also an early supporter and founder of Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek Catholic Church. It was his ancestral church. He was an active member and supporter of the DC-area Ramallah Club since its creation over 60 years ago.

In Nov. 2011, Mr. Hadeed was an Alexandria Living Legends nominee in recognition of his lifetime of exemplary community service. He strongly lived by the Lions International motto of “You can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else.” During his years of service, he facilitated the implementation of the emergency 9-1-1 service call line in Alexandria. As President and Board Member of his Lions Club, he advocated and demonstrated to his family and community the importance of giving back a legacy of service to others.

Mr. Hadeed is survived by his children, Michael Hadeed Jr., Mary Hadeed Zaboli, and Joseph Hadeed, his twelve grandchildren, John Hadeed, Michael Hadeed III, Teresa Hadeed Ragno, Joan Hadeed Rolf, Catherine Hadeed, Thomas Hadeed, Samantha Zaboli, Alexander Zaboli, Adam Zaboli, Sarah Zaboli, Michael Frix and Samira L. Hadeed, his seven great-grandchildren, Samir and Jordy Minda, Elizabeth and Lilah Hadeed, Emma and Abigail Ragno, and Vivian Rolf, and his sister, Clair Saah. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Samira.
