ALEXANDRIA, VA–Canceled last year due to the pandemic, this year’s George Washington Birthday Parade is on, in honor of our healthcare workers and first responders.

This Monday, February 21st beginning at 1pm in Old Town, thousands will come from across the region to help celebrate George Washington’s 290th birthday. (Washington’s birthday is February 22nd, but is celebrated on President’s Day, Monday, February 21st.) Over 60 groups will walk in the parade itself. “We are thrilled to announce that our citywide celebration of George Washington’s birthday is returning this year,” said Tyler Vanice, chairperson of Alexandria’s George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee (GWBCC), an all-volunteer and city-appointed committee to organize, manage, and fundraise for the parade. “This year we also celebrate our healthcare workers and first responders for their heroic service during Covid.  We would not be enjoying this year’s celebration without all they continue to do for us, and we proudly recognize them as this year’s parade Grand Marshals.”

The parade is the culmination of many George Washington celebrations throughout the city; each one honors his connection to his hometown of Alexandria, his duty, and his patriotism.

To prepare for this year’s parade, the GWBCC rolled out some fun videos to highlight Washington’s connection to Alexandria and to promote Monday’s parade.
