Alexandria, VA – On May 16, a coronavirus test pilot program took place at Alexandria Neighborhood Health.

The program, supported by the city and Alexandria Health Department (AHD), collected 236 samples from the community. This is a step in the goal to provide community-wide testing. Previously, testing had only been available to people who exhibited symptoms.

Those who provided samples will be contacted by AHD and given their results. Neighborhood Health will work with individuals that test positive to make sure they have proper medical care.

AHD provided personal protective equipment, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers to help with patient flow, and coordinated with community partners and relevant city agencies.

The city provided logistics support for vehicle-side testing; informational materials for those who were tested; signage; traffic and parking control; and emergency medical support.
