First Thursday Postponed Due To Weather, Rescheduled for August 11

ALEXANDRIA, VA –First Thursday: Aloha Thursday takes place on Thursday, August 11 from 6pm to dusk along Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray. Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt and join this street festival featuring live music, themed activities, and more. The event is free and open to all. This month’s featured non-profit is Mother of Light Center, a Del Ray-based, volunteer-run organization that provides food, clothing and household items to those in need in our community and offers several community programs for vulnerable families, including a support group for single mothers, and Reach for the Stars after-school program. Needed items include boxed facial tissues, large pink erasers, 24-ct. Crayola crayons, Expo dry erase markers, (4-pack, low-odor, chisel tip), pencils, small purple Elmer’s glue sticks, 12″ rulers, 12 ct. Crayola pre-sharpened colored pencils, blunt-tip scissors, wide-ruled spiral notebooks, pocket folders, highlighters, and Clorox disinfecting wipes for their back-to-school supply drive. Donations can be dropped off all week on Gayle’s porch at 110 E. Del Ray Avenue, or at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square on Thursday, August 11 from 6pm to dusk.

Held the first Thursday from April to September along Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, First Thursday is a series of free outdoor street festivals that bring the community together around a fun theme, benefiting a local nonprofit.  Learn more at visitdelray.com.
