ALEXANDRIA, VA–While the impending closure of the Metro Yellow Line looms, riders, commuters, and travelers are finding DASH a free, reliable transportation standout.

From Sep. 10, 2022 through Oct. 22, 2022, six yellow and blue line Metro stations below Reagan National Airport will be closed while construction finishes up on the new Potomac Yard Station.

Following this first phase of construction, a second phase of “rehabilitation,” according to DASH, will take place on the Yellow Line tunnel and bridge between Pentagon and L’Enfant stations. This will shut down all Yellow Line transportation through May 2023.

As the two phases of these construction projects proceed, WMATA will post regular construction alerts for passengers.

Transportation alternatives are available through Metro Express, Local, and DC Shuttle services, but Alexandria riders might consider opting for DASH, an always-free city-wide service. View the transportation schedule here to view alternative Metro stations during the affected month.

While the next several months will pose inconvenience and force adaptation for many, Alexandria will continue to offer as many safe and effective alternatives to Metro as possible.“The City of Alexandria is working with Metro to mitigate disruption and help residents and visitors make travel plans during these periods,” reads a statement on the AlexandriaVa.gov website.
