ALEXANDRIA, VA – The City of Alexandria has chosen 170 residents who will receive financial help as part of Alexandria’s Recurring Income for Success and Equity (ARISE) program. As first reported in the Washington Examiner, those selected will receive a $500 check each month over a two-year period.

“We are providing financial resources to individuals and families so they are empowered to decide how to best meet the needs in their lives,” said Mayor Justin Wilson in a press release announcing the program this fall. “We are creating this unique program to evolve the ways that we assist our neighbors in need of extra support. That is what ARISE is about.”

The city began contacting people, selected via a lottery, on Dec. 13.

Applications to enroll in the program opened Oct. 31 and closed Nov. 9. To be eligible, residents had to be at least 18 years old and  have an income, depending on household size, of 50% or below the Area Median Income.

For example, the monthly income limit for a family of three, according to a chart by Community and Human Services, is $5,338. The annual income limit is $64,050.

Checks will go out starting in February 2023.  For additional resources, click HERE.
