ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Alexandria nonprofit, Campagna Center, has opened its renovated facility at 418 S. Washington St. Since 1945, the organization has specialized in educational and developmental services for children and their families. The renovation was completed with $6.7 miillion from the Forward Together fundraiser campaign.

“Just shy of our 80th year in operation, we’re emerging from the pandemic in an even stronger place than where we found ourselves in 2020,” said President and CEO Tammy Mann..  “And when it comes to providing preschool education, after-school programs, tutoring and mentoring, college and career planning for youth, and adult English language learning classes, we’re excited for what comes next”

Prior  to the pandemic, Campagna’s leadership was working on a plan for a capital campaign to “reimagine” its “aging headquarters, especially in ways that would modernize and improve the delivery of its programs,” according to a press release. Because the onset of covid-19 altered life, the organization was forced to delay this plan for a few years.

In 2021, Forward Together began in earnest. Supporters in the surrounding community, staff, and volunteers all contributed – raising millions for the effort. Their generosity allowed for the construction of classrooms that support both in-person and remote learning, a children’s library, an event terrace, meeting rooms with teleconference capabilities, and a larger space for administrators.

According to their website, more than 2,000 children and families rely on services each year. The building upgrades will help Campagna Center meet the needs of those it serves.

The center will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Open House April 20 at 10:30 a.m.  An Open House will follow, beginning at noon. For more information, contact Mike Crifasi at [email protected].
