Home Maintenance 2023 Resolutions: Check the health of your home

Alexandria, VA – Happy New Year from the Seward Group!  So many new year’s resolutions are focused on improving one’s physical health – eat better, exercise more, meditate or even schedule that overdue doctor’s appointment.  Just as your personal health should be of utmost importance so should the health of your home, your pride, and joy.

Given it’s one of your greatest assets, taking care of the physical health of your home should be part of your annual routine.  If not, home maintenance projects can pile up quickly.  If neglected too long, they can lead to larger, more expensive projects.

Not sure where to start?  Here’s a short list to get you started.

*Test your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors

*Clean your gutters

*Clean your dryer vent

*Clean and inspect your fireplace

*Inspect your roof

*Seal cracks around windows and doors

*Schedule your spring A/C check-up now

*Change your HVAC filters regularly

For a complete physical of your home, consider hiring a home inspector.  The price for an inspection will depend on the size of your home but more than likely fall within $600 – $1,200.

A home inspector will give you a thorough tour of your home (in ways maybe you’ve never seen it before) along with a report outlining a list of action items to tend to in 2023.  Many inspectors can also help you prioritize what needs to be addressed immediately versus two or five years down the road.

In summary, take care of your home and it will take care of you!  Best of luck with whatever resolutions you have set for 2023.  Wishing all a healthy and happy new year.
