Thirty-seven years and more than 550 performances stand between Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theatre’s (MVCCT) first foray onto the stage with “Winnie the Pooh” in 1979 and their 100th production opening this November.  Throughout the years MVCCT has featured more than 3,500 kids in a mix of full-length musicals and dramatic works.

With its 100th show opening Nov 10th MVCCT jumps back to the 1950s with “Grease: School Version,” featuring 44 talented area youth ages 8-18, who attend more than 20 different Northern Virginia schools.  Poodle skirts, saddle shoes and leather jackets abound at Rydell High where Greaser Danny Zuko and new girl Sandy Dumbrowski navigate the intricacies of the high school social scene and young love. This family-friendly adaptation of the classic musical is appropriate for all ages.

Honoring the theatre’s past and present, actors from many of MVCCT’s previous 99 productions are being invited to attend an alumni-night performance of “Grease:  School Version” on Saturday, Nov. 18.  MVCCT Board of Directors President Jennifer Collins said, “We are looking forward to celebrating 100 shows with many of the people who helped us reach this tremendous milestone.  Through the decades, MVCCT has played a huge part in the lives of young actors. Its productions are many childrens’ first exposure to live theatre and fondly remembered by their families.  We hope to continue serving the Northern Virginia community for 100 more shows, and beyond!”

MVCCT was founded in 1980 as a not-for-profit organization to provide area youth with quality theatrical experiences that are educational, creative, engaging and supportive. Through the use of hands-on learning of the theatrical arts, MVCCT offers children, ages 5-18, the opportunity to enhance their development; building self-confidence, character, self-expression, autonomy and responsibility.
