Alexandria Registration and Information About Bike to Work Day, Friday, May 19

ALEXANDRIA, VA – In case you are unaware, May is National Bike Month. Registration for Bike to Work Day is officially open! This year the event is on Friday, May 19 and the City of Alexandria’s portion happens between 7 and 10:00 a.m. at Market Square, 301 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314.
Be one of the first 15,000 registrants to get this year’s t-shirt and stop by the pit stop to receive free giveaways, food, coffee, and more!
The League of American Bicyclists began Bike to Work Day as part of Bike Month in 1956. Over the years, Bike to Work Day has grown into a widespread event with countless bicyclists taking to the streets nationwide in an effort to get commuters to try bicycling to work as a healthy and safe alternative to driving alone. In the metropolitan Washington, DC region, Bike to Work Day has grown from a small group of a few hundred in 2001 to a pre-pandemic high of 18,700 participants.
Pick up a bike at one of the hundreds of Capital Bikeshare stations in the District, City of Alexandria, plus Arlington, Fairfax, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties. Participating in the Bike to Work Day event for the first time is a very exciting experience, but if you’ve never commuted by bicycle before you may be a bit apprehensive about it.
“No worries, we’re here to help and there will be plenty of other commuters participating for the first time just like you. We want to do everything we can to make this an easy and positive experience for you,” says the website.

All bicyclists are welcome to join one of the free Bike to Work Day convoys which are led by experienced volunteer bicycle commuters. Although you need to register for Bike to Work Day, you don’t have to sign up to participate in a convoy. If you would like to join a convoy, simply meet the convoy group at the start location at the start time, or hop on anywhere along their route as they pedal on by. Stay with a convoy to its final destination or hop off anywhere along the route to suit your convenience. Convoy leaders will leave promptly according to their start time, so please arrive at the start location for your convoy 10-15 minutes early.
If you would like to lead a convoy for Bike to Work Day May 19, 2023, please fill out and submit this form no later than May 12.
