ALEXANDRIA, VA-The City of Alexandria is welcoming residents to take part in the Curbside Food Waste Composting Pilot. Launched earlier this year, the program’s goal is to reduce and compost food waste, and promote sustainability.

The program website indicates that residents can put waste like fruit, meat,  and vegetable scraps in a special bin for collection rather than the regular trash. Those who receive trash and recycling services from the City of Alexandria are eligible to participate.

In the program’s first year, the cost will be subsidized. Participants will receive a feedback form every month to help make improvements. After 12 months, residents will be given the opportunity to continue service for a monthly or yearly fee.
