ALEXANDRIA, VA – Housing Alexandria has announced that the waitlist for Phase 1 of Sansé, a new affordable housing community in Alexandria, will be open from April 20 through April 26.

Interested applicants can submit their information during this limited window through the official waitlist form. A lottery will be held on May 4 to determine the order in which applicants are invited to continue in the process.

About the Sansé Community

Sansé is a large-scale affordable housing development located at 3600 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria’s Arlandria-Chirilagua neighborhood. Once fully completed, the community will offer 495 affordable apartment homes.

The first phase will welcome residents beginning in August, with 206 units available. These apartments range from junior one-bedroom to three-bedroom layouts. Of these, 24 units—including one-bedroom, one-bedroom plus den, and two-bedroom homes—are designed to be accessible.

How the Application Process Works

The process to apply for housing at Sansé includes several steps:

  • April 20–26: Waitlist is open for applications
  • May 4: Lottery determines applicant order
  • Post-lottery: Selected applicants are contacted to schedule appointments
  • Final step: Applicants are screened for eligibility

Submitting a waitlist application does not guarantee housing. Placement depends on eligibility requirements and unit availability.

Community Amenities

Residents of Sansé will have access to a variety of amenities designed to support comfortable and connected living, including:

  • Community room
  • Fitness center
  • Family playroom
  • Playground
  • Bike storage
  • Free basic Wi-Fi
  • Limited free parking
