ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Commanders’ magical season is over. What are your plans on Super Bowl Sunday? If you don’t care for the Chiefs or the Eagles, there is another option: The Puppy Bowl. In its 21st year, the event will feature two rescue dogs with ties to Alexandria.

Before they found their forever homes, Abigail and Maya were cared for by Operation Paws for Homes, which is based in Alexandria. The nonprofit rescues dogs from rual and overcrowded shelters in North and South Carolina and West Virginia.

Abigail is a labrador retriever mix who loves the zoomies, which will no doubt be useful during the competition. Maya,  a Doberman Pinscher/American Staffordshire Terrier mix, is energetic and friendly. They will be teammates on Team Ruff, competing for the Lombarky trophy. The Puppy Bowl also includes the MVP (Most Valuable Puppy) and the Underdog Award.

Tune in to Puppy Bowl XXI Feb.9 at 2 p.m. on Animal Planet.
