Alexandria, VA – In the early morning hours at Alexandria’s Jones Point Park, the paths fill with the steady rhythm of bicyclists and joggers greeting the day. But the most dynamic and eye-catching group is a circle of mothers pushing baby carriages, pausing to do squats and lunges, and sharing laughter. This spring, that energy carries added meaning as Fit4Mom Alexandria joins communities nationwide in recognizing May as the “Month of Mama,” a time dedicated to honoring and uplifting mothers.

For Fit4Mom Alexandria, May’s Month of Mama is more than a national campaign—it is a call to action. Throughout the month of May, the organization expands its reach with special events, including raffles supported by local businesses, “Moms’ Nights Out,” and a “30 days for $30” promotion designed to make participation accessible to every mother in the community. In a region known for its fast pace and transient population, particularly among military and federal families, these efforts aim to ensure that no mother feels overlooked or alone.

Fit4Mom Alexandria is now led by co-owners Monica Lynn Morgan and Emily Martini, who took ownership in January 2025. Neither woman initially set out to become an entrepreneur. Morgan, a licensed occupational therapist, and Martini, who has a background in fitness, wellness, and yoga instruction, both found their way to Fit4Mom as participants seeking community during motherhood.

“We did not foresee becoming business owners, especially franchisees,” Morgan said. “But we could not let a community asset such as Fit4Mom Alexandria fall to the wayside or fade out in this area.”

Founded more than 20 years ago, the Alexandria franchise is one of the original Fit4Mom locations. The program has changed hands only a few times, and Morgan and Martini are committed to preserving its legacy while expanding its reach. Their journey from members to instructors to owners reflects the organization’s unique strength: women supporting one another through every stage of motherhood.

“We feel immense gratitude toward the women who formed our tribe during our time as participants,” Morgan expressed. “They have transitioned alongside us to become an exceptional team of instructors, all dedicated to establishing Fit4Mom Alexandria as a significant and enduring fixture within the community.”

Unlike traditional fitness programs, Fit4Mom Alexandria is designed to meet mothers where they are. Participants range from those newly cleared for postpartum activity to mothers of toddlers and beyond. This diversity fosters a natural mentorship, where experienced moms share advice and encouragement with those just beginning their parenting journey.

“A lot of our families don’t have built-in support systems,” Martini explained. “We see active-duty military families, former military, and people who have relocated for work. That’s why creating this village is so important.”

That sense of “village” is central to the organization’s philosophy. Members often describe the experience as more than a workout—it is a place to be seen, supported, and understood. The guiding idea is simple but powerful: motherhood should not be done alone.

Accessibility is also a priority. Fit4Mom Alexandria offers a free first class and flexible membership options, including a lighter plan for those balancing work and family responsibilities.

The supportive network of Fit4Mom extends far beyond the borders of Alexandria. Morgan shared that her early apprehensions regarding potential competition among women-led franchises were quickly laid to rest. Instead of a competitive environment, she discovered a deeply collaborative community of fellow franchise owners who provide mutual encouragement at both the regional and national levels.

As Fit4Mom Alexandria continues to grow, its mission remains firmly rooted in connection. Whether a mother attends for a single season or stays for years, the goal is the same: to ensure she leaves stronger, more confident, and supported.

At Jones Point each morning, and especially throughout the Month of Mama in May, that mission is already in motion—one stroller, one conversation, and one community at a time.
