Over classic Italian cuisine at Aldo’s, the club engaged in a lively debate on Towles’ elegant storytelling, richly drawn characters, and distinctive prose. Themes of friendship, ambition, reinvention, and the power of chance encounters were thoughtfully explored during the discussion. The collection, which features six New York-based short stories and a novella set in the elegant world of Rules of Civility, inspired a profound dialogue about how our personal decisions shape our existence. Participants noted Towles’ skill in weaving together comedic and touching moments to examine the enduring influences on our lives and connections.

The evening concluded with members looking ahead to the next gathering, scheduled for Monday, June 29, at Elaine’s Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. The June selection is The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick. Readers interested in joining this popular club are welcome; however, RSVPs are required, and space is limited. Updates and RSVP details are available by following the Zebra Book Club on Facebook or reaching out to [email protected].
