Alexandria, VA – The Zebra Book Club gathered at Elaine’s Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria on June 29 for a lively discussion of Marie Bostwick’s bestselling novel, The Book Club for Troublesome Women, led by book club member Susan Hahn.

Set in 1963, the story unfolds largely in Northern Virginia and follows a group of women as they navigate societal expectations while seeking greater independence and fulfillment.
“The book highlights the sacrifices and hard-earned rights women made for equal opportunities they were working toward at that time,” Hahn said. “For women reading Bostwick’s book now, who are in their late 60s or early 70s, this really lifts up what they did to make rights for women possible today.”

Club members reflected on the novel’s themes of friendship, resilience, and personal growth, while drawing connections between the struggles women faced in the 1960s and those that continue today.

“The book is also of interest to today’s young professional women because it reminds them how far the equality struggle has come,” Hahn said, “and yet the battle is ongoing for women to find a balance in personal fulfillment, career, and autonomy.”
