ALEXANDRIA, VA-Washington DC’s Studio Theatre will move to all-digital productions for their 2020-2021 season. The switch from in-person performances was announced in a press release earlier this afternoon.

“This decision was made after assessing the fluctuating nature of coronavirus in the DC area and the challenges to safely presenting live theatre,” said Mike Fila, Associate Director of Marketing and Communications.

Productions will be filmed in Studio’s intimate spaces to capture a high-quality, in-the-room experience, with safety precautions in place for artists and production crew in compliance with Actors’ Equity Association guidelines.

“This unprecedented time for theatres has also created moments for experimentation in how we work, create theatre, and reach audiences ” said Studio Artistic Director David Muse.

Since shutting its doors last March, Studio has hosted live stream, events, commissioned artists to produce high-quality cell phone videos, and released audio plays.

Patrons and subscribers will be able to watch productions on demand through Studio’s website during designated 3-week streaming windows. Subscriptions are currently available; single tickets will be released closer to the opening dates of individual productions.
