ALEXANDRIA, VA-Marian Van Landingham is the winner of the 2024 Bernard “Ben” Brenman Archaeology in Alexandria Award. Van Landingham was honored virtually last week during a City Council meeting. She has dedicated more than 50 years of her life to making Alexandria’s waterfront vibrant with art and archaeology through the founding of the Torpedo Factory Art Center. She was also an early proponent of the idea that the city’s archaeology be on display for the public to enjoy.

The recipient of the award for Outstanding Visionary Partner works to spotlight “Alexandria Archaeology’s public education mission, which enriches the lives of Alexandria residents and visitors for decades passes and decades to come,” reads an Alexandria eNews bulletin.

The Brenman Award was established in 2007 by the Alexandria Archaeological Commission. The late Brenman dedicated himself to finding, sharing, and preserving this city’s heritage. He was a founding member of the AAC and served as its chair for 21 years.
