ALEXANDRIA, VA -Michael Babin has added a new contemporary coworking lounge to the establishments owned by Neighborhood Restaurant Group (NRG) along Mount Vernon Avenue. Sandy Marks is leading the charge to launch the Studio Del Ray project.

Located at 2016 Mount Vernon Ave. on the upper level above NRG’s famed sandwich shop, Shortys, and the staff-supervised child play area, Mulberry Lane, this new space is helping define the heart of the Del Ray neighborhood.

Studio Del Ray is serving as Alexandria’s much-needed ‘third space’ outside home and work, where the community can come together to collaborate, celebrate, and work. Covered with aesthetic modern home decor, intricate designs, and comfortable furniture, this space blends a sleek homey environment with a serene working atmosphere. Itis set up geared to become Alexandria’s go-to spot for productivity and community.

Studio Del Ray has high-speed internet, private meeting rooms, designated work stations, and communal space – intended for anyone. Freelancers, remote workers, people seeking event or party space, business leaders, and community members.

Studio Del Ray designer, Catherine Hailey Babin, described the inspiration behind this space’s initial concept: “It was originally closed-off office spaces, until everybody was working from their houses during the post-Covid shakeup. Now that we’re out of that, we are trying to bring the communal Del Ray spirit back to The Avenue.”

Being attached to both Mulberry Lane and Shortys allows people the freedom to either grab a bite to eat during their workday or provide a safe environment for their young kids to play. In other words, while Studio Del Ray shares the premises, the working space is properly separated and remains a calm adults-only work space. As a perk, members can move freely through all NRG-owned spaces throughout the workday.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this report said Sandy Marks is the founder of NRG. That title belongs to Michael Babin. We apologize for the error. It has been corrected.
