Alexandria, VA – The City of Alexandria is inviting residents to participate in a virtual pre-construction community meeting to learn more about upcoming improvements to the Mount Vernon Trail along East Abingdon Drive. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will focus on the planned sidewalk widening project located north of Slater’s Lane.

The project aims to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility by widening sidewalks along this busy stretch of East Abingdon Drive, which connects to the popular Mount Vernon Trail. Construction is slated to begin on August 4, pending weather conditions.

During the virtual meeting, City staff will present detailed construction plans, including anticipated work hours, parking restrictions, and lane closures. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns during a designated public comment period.
