Alexandria National Night Out 2026 Guide: Find All 54 Neighborhood Events on Aug. 4
From Old Town to Del Ray to the West End, Alexandria will celebrate a record 54 National Night Out events on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Here's everything you need to know before heading out.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandrians will have more opportunities than ever to celebrate National Night Out this year.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, a record 54 neighborhoods, apartment communities, civic associations, businesses and faith organizations will host National Night Out events across the city, making 2026 Alexandria’s biggest National Night Out ever.
The milestone builds on Alexandria’s growing national reputation for community engagement. In 2025, Alexandria was recognized as one of the Top 15 National Night Out communities in the United States among more than 400 communities in its population category. This year’s record participation reflects the continued commitment of residents, neighborhood groups and public safety agencies to building safer, stronger and more connected communities.
As The Zebra reported ahead of last year’s event, “Connected communities are among the safest and most resilient.” That’s the idea behind National Night Out—bringing neighbors together in a relaxed setting to meet the police officers, firefighters and public safety professionals who serve their community before an emergency ever happens.
What Is National Night Out?
National Night Out is an annual nationwide community-building campaign that strengthens partnerships between residents and local public safety agencies and encourages neighborhood camaraderie.
Across Alexandria, neighborhoods will host block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, games, music and family activities. Alexandria Police Department officers, members of the K-9 Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Bike Patrol, Command Staff and patrol officers will visit participating events throughout the evening. Representatives from the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office, the Alexandria Fire Department, the Department of Emergency and Customer Communications, and other City agencies will also participate.
Rather than simply driving through neighborhoods, first responders spend the evening talking with residents, answering questions, meeting children and strengthening the relationships that make communities safer year-round.
What’s New This Year?
One of the newest additions is the Alexandria Police Department Community Dog Walk in Del Ray.
Police Chief Tarrick McGuire and Alexandria police officers will join residents and their four-legged friends to introduce the department’s Dog Walker Watch program, which encourages dog owners to serve as extra eyes and ears while walking through their neighborhoods.
Dog owners interested in participating can register through the Alexandria Police Department’s Dog Walker Watch program.
When Is It?
Tuesday, Aug. 4
Most neighborhood events will take place between 5 and 8 p.m., although individual event times and activities vary by location.
Residents are encouraged to attend a National Night Out event near them—even if they don’t belong to that neighborhood association. It’s one of the easiest ways to meet neighbors, introduce children to local first responders and enjoy one of Alexandria’s favorite community traditions.
