According to an official AlertDC traffic notice, the bridge is expected to open several times between 10 p.m. Thursday, September 10, and 5 a.m. Friday, September 11. Traffic will be stopped intermittently while the drawbridge is raised.
The bridge carries Interstate 495 across the Potomac River, connecting Alexandria with Prince George’s County, Maryland. It also towers over Alexandria’s historic Jones Point Park. Drivers traveling through the area overnight should allow extra time and consider an alternate route.
