Need Food? More Benefits Coming to State SNAP Program
Virginia Department of Social Services aims to continue to help those in need during COVID-19 crisis
Alexandria, VA – Virginia’s Department of Social Services has indicated that more emergency benefits will be added to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The program is designed to help individuals and families who are in need have food. The emergency benefits announced today will provide further support during the COVID-19 crisis.
Benefits will be placed automatically onto SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer cards on May 11. As with March and April benefits, eligible households include participants who are not already receiving the maximum allotment that is part of their regular benefit.
Households with SNAP assistance will receive their May benefits on the day they are received each month. For SNAP members, no action is needed to receive the new emergency benefits.
