About Eco-City Alexandria

Eco-City Alexandria is a collaborative strategic effort to achieve sustainability throughout the City of Alexandria. Eco-cities work to harmonize their natural resources and environmental assets with existing policies, regional realities, and economic and business markets while engaging the community in a collaborative and transparent decision-making process.

Join Us and Get a Tree Seedling

The first 275 residents to visit can receive a free tree seedling to plant in their own yard! In honor of Alexandria’s 275th anniversary, the City will be giving out 275 seedlings of native Virginia trees. Visit volunteers at the Alexandria Beautification Commission table to get yours and learn how to care for it.

This opportunity for the community to get involved was inspired by the City’s ongoing initiative to plant 275 trees in strategic locations across Alexandria. These trees, which stand 7 to 12 feet tall, will help mitigate the negative impacts of stormwater runoff, reduce the heat island effect through a replenished tree canopy, and more.
